Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a reporter for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has an undergraduate degree in English from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell started her career as a journalist for KYW Radio and TV, Philadelphia in the year 1967. In 1976 she was a part of the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). In Washington she was made general reporter by NBC News two year later. Beginning in 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988 she was named chief congressional reporter. Mitchell was promoted to the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and Chief Foreign Affairs Correspondent at NBC News. Mitchell was a panelist on the TV program Meet the Press and also hosted the program. Mitchell participated on a panel during the debate in 1988 with George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in 2005 at the John F. Kennedy School of Government. The Radio-Television News Directors Association awarded Mitchell Leonard Zeidenberg Award in 2004 to recognize her efforts in protecting First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell initially covered for the White House for NBC News from 1981-1988 during both of the terms of President Ronald Reagan. Her reporting included a number of crucial stories such as the Iran-Contra controversy, budget and tax reform in addition to the issue of arms control. She traveled widely together with President Reagan for summits along with Mikhail Gorbachev.
