Pointe Claire lies in that quiet part of Montreal's West Island. A lot of people aren't aware of about the definition of the word and believe it's a separate Island west of Montreal. The truth is, the West Island includes the entire portion of Lachine up to the west. The West Island is frequently referred to as the place of birth for Amanda Brugel, but while this is the case the time she spent there was not long. Brugel grew up in Courtice in the city of Oshawa, Ontario. Her initial goals were to become an experienced dancer. In the end, however, her growth surge meant she had outgrown her dance partner. The article she wrote about revealed published by The Toronto Star that she was 6'1" tall, even when she was wearing heels. After I outgrew my male partners then I slowed down. Many former dancers turn to acting, and in Bruce's case, it was the nudge of a drama teacher at the high school that led her to take a step in the appropriate direction. She was encouraged to try out for roles in her school's production. The teacher advised her to try out for a role in the school's annual production. The result was that she was chosen to play Anne of Green Gables. It led to a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and earned the Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in 2000.In the 20+ years since, Brugel has landed roles in over 60 shows that have screened on both small and large screens. She attracted the most media attention after she got her role as Rita in the award-winning show, The Handmaid's Tale
